Yep, men . More help. That’s how badly we want you to reap the benefits of
giving your lady a lovely Valentine’s Day.
So, here’re my two cents: Check out 3000BC Spa’s V-Day package they’ve
created with our area’s very own Robertson’s Flowers. For $200, the love of
your life will get a dozen red roses, plus a gift card for 3000BC’s decadent
Red Tea Infusion Swedish massage (wherein she’ll be rubbed down with the
aforementioned red tea, blessing her with the powers of antioxidants,
improved circulation, a boosted immune system, and help combating insomnia,
irritability, headaches, tension and eczema.) Through the 14th, they’ll even
deliver this right to her door.
Sounds like this’ll work out for you guys, too, huh?

Wins Prestigious
Small Business Excellence Award for Retailer of the Year
Click Here For The Full Story
Robertson's Flowers, in Chestnut Hill, Wayne & Wyndmoor, is the recipient of the 2007 Small Business Excellence Award for Retailer of the Year, presented by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. The award is sponsored by PNC Bank.
Robertson's Flowers is well known and respected throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and the floral industry for tasteful and fine quality fresh flowers and arrangements for three generations. With a long history and dependable reputation, Robertson's Flowers is a household name in the community.
In 1925, George Robertson and his eldest son, Charles, opened their own landscaping firm. The business grew rapidly and two years later they purchased a building on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, where George’s daughter, Janet, first added fresh cut flowers to the business. By 1949, the family had moved the business a few blocks up the hill to its present location.
As third generation of the family-owned business, John P. Ferry, Jr., explains, “There are 30% fewer florists than 50 years ago, due in large part to other types of stores selling flowers. With that kind of competition, it’s more important than ever before that we stay focused on what we do best: deliver the most beautiful products available and provide exceptional customer service.
Robertson's Flowers is one of ten small businesses in the region being honored by the Chamber with a 2007 Small Business Excellence Award.
Chamber President & CEO Mark Schweiker said the award recipients are set apart from the competition by their leadership abilities, their business success, their community involvement and their impressive commitment to improving our region.
"Through sheer determination, vision and hard work, they have set new standards of excellence in their industries for service, innovation and quality," said Mr. Schweiker.
The Chamber created the Small Business Excellence Awards over two decades ago in recognition of the vital role that small businesses play in the overall economic development of our 11-county region. The award winners, nominated by their peers, are honored for their outstanding achievements in the small business community – companies with fewer than 100 employees.
The ten awardees of the 2007 Small Business Excellence Award are:
Small Business Person of the Year: Alfred N. Basilicato, Numonics Corporation (Montgomeryville, PA)
Customer Service Excellence of the Year: Smart Park, Inc. (Essington, PA)
Emerging Business of the Year: Defense Solutions, LLC (Exton, PA)
Family Business of the Year: Berry & Homer (Philadelphia 19125)
Innovative Business of the Year: OmPay, LLC (Philadelphia 19104)
Manufacturer of the Year: Union Packaging, LLC (Yeadon, PA)

ROBERTSON’S FLOWERS RECEIVES FIRST BEST FLORIST
Philadelphia STYLE Honors People, Places and Establishments
Philadelphia, PA, June 25, 2005 – The readers of Philadelphia STYLE have named Robertson’s Flowers of Philadelphia as the Best FLORIST in the magazine’s first reader’s choice Best of STYLE awards. More than 3,300 Philadelphians voted by mail and the Internet, honoring the city’s and Jersey shore’s most esteemed people, places and establishments. The winners were announced in the July/August issue of Philadelphia STYLE and celebrated on June 23rd at Philadelphia STYLE’s Best of STYLE party.
The issue declares Robertson’s Flowers is voted by readers as the best florist in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
The Best of STYLE ballot utilized a write-in format, enabling voters to commend their personal favorites, instead of selecting from a list. The poll’s 71 categories were determined by the magazine’s editorial staff based on what they believe are important elements of the Philadelphia lifestyle.
“Philadelphia STYLE has been a driving force of the city’s lifestyle for the past six years,” says Dana Spain-Smith, COO of DLG Media Holdings, LLC, publisher of Philadelphia STYLE. “Our readers are our number one priority and we always appreciate their input. The Best of STYLE awards are another opportunity for our readers to become involved with the magazine and salute the best the city has to offer.”
DLG Media Holdings, LLC, the Philadelphia-based publisher of city-centric fashion, home and lifestyle-oriented magazines, was founded in 2005 as a platform for the expansion of the STYLE brand to other cities – an expansion that calls for a new title every 18 months over the next five years. The planned growth is based upon the success of the Philadelphia STYLE model, which has enjoyed a 30 percent revenue increase during the last three-and-a-half years while nearly doubling its circulation. DLG Media’s first new venture was the May 1, 2005 launch of DC STYLE. Flowers save the day - Chestnut Hill Local 4/7/05
http://www.chestnuthilllocal.com/archives/040705/letters.html
It was about a year ago (April 17), my wedding day. I was determined that my husband-to-be and I were going to pay for the entire wedding on our own. (Our parents know we didn't quite achieve that goal - Thanks for helping!) As I investigated all the things that go into weddings, I made sure I shopped around to get the best price.
Flowers was a tough one for me — they are so beautiful, but they are not going to last much longer than the day. I had my aunt make cakes for centerpieces at the reception. So the only thing I had to worry about was what flowers the bridal party and close family members would carry.
Of course one of the first places I looked was Robertson's. I had a long-standing relationship with them; I used to work there. But I was very intimidated by their prices. I shopped around quite a bit, never found anyone that made me quite as comfortable as I would have been just going with Robertson's, but cost was a big deal. My friend had recently been married at a local restaurant that did weddings and their own flowers. Her flowers turned out so nice and they were relatively inexpensive. So I met with them and put down a deposit.
Throughout the planning I had several conversations with the florist about what I wanted and even provided him a picture I found in a magazine of the round bouquet of bright pink gerbera daises that I wanted him to duplicate for all the bouquets. We discussed pink freesia boutonnières for the guys and I was happy!
Well, April 17 came and the flower order came. They must have had the wrong house. The gerbera daisies were muted peaches and light pinks. The boutonnières were purple. Aarrgghhh! After I made my fair share of comments to the florist he left and offered no solutions to the dilemma. We then got on the phone with Robertson's (we had to be at the church in about 1 1/2 hours). They didn't have gerbera daisies in stock. Two of my friends took off to the Wyndmoor Robertson's, picked out the prettiest pink roses I have ever seen and waited while the florist put together bouquets and boutonnières for me. During this process I did find out from Robertson's that freesia doesn't come in pink!
One lesson I learned through wedding planning: never take the first quote. All involved in the wedding business are going to offer you everything you could ever think of at first. But know what you want and what you want to spend for it and negotiate with them. Everything wedding related is negotiable (well except the groom, maybe!).
I won't divulge what I paid for my flowers but I will tell you it was well worth every penny!
Thank you Hope and Coleen for coordinating my flowers on my wedding day while I continued to get ready! Thank you to Bruce and his crew at Robertson's for preparing gorgeous deep pink roses for my girls to carry in about an hour!
And Bruce — for my children's weddings we will definitely be ordering our flowers from Robertson's!
