Wissahickon: Worth Preserving
The Preservation of a Pennsylvania Watershed

The Wissahickon Creek, its valley and cultural artifacts have inspired preservation efforts for more than 50 years. To honor the WVWA's 50th anniversary, Jamie Stewart, a second-generation member of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association Board of Directors, preserves the details of life along the Wissahickon Creek. Hike with Mr. Stewart down the Wissahickon Creek as he captures the elusive Virginia Rail, the majestic Peregrine Falcon, the evocative path through Penllyn Woods and the timeless Evans- Mumbower Mill, and assembles the extraordinary images to present the result of the efforts of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association and its partners and to vividly illustrate why the creek and its valley are worth preserving.

10" x 11" x 3/4" Hardcover • 112 Pages, 186 color photographs • Trail map printed on end papers.

Garden design will climb to new heights as the 2008 Philadelphia Flower Show, “Jazz it Up!”opens at the Pennsylvania Convention Center March 2-9, 2008. Now in its 179th year, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s largest fundraiser will boast 10 acres of these inspired gardens along with the toe-tapping vibes of some jazz greats.

This year the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society will pay tribute to New Orleans. This homage to The Big Easy will include hanging gardens and cast-iron balconies reminiscent of the French Quarter that will surround The Bourbon Street Stage, showcasing N’awlins style jazz and feature special performances.

There will also be a contemporary twist on the popular speakeasies of the 1920s, special contemporary performances hosted daily by Philadelphia’s venerable Settlement School, the Second Line parade (a New Orleans tradition), vast array of programs and activities for youth, volunteers, members and gardening enthusiasts.

Shopping at the Show is a great way to end the day. The Flower Show Marketplace will offer quality tools, sculptures, plants, art work, and cut flowers in more than 150 vendor booths. New Orleans and Southern-inspired garden décor, tools, jewelry, crafts, and glassware will be featured with special pieces available at the Official Flower Show Shoppe.

For more information, please visit the Official Philadelphia Flower Show Website.
