Why June? Many people have speculated as to why June is the most popular month for weddings. Is it the beautiful weather, easier travel for friends and family – or something else entirely? People in the Roman Empire nearly always got married in the month dedicated to the goddess Juno, as she was thought to be a protector of all women, but especially new brides and mothers. Tradition dictated that Celtic couples get married in June as well, following a 6-week courtship which began on May 1st every year. With so many of our ancestors thinking June was the only month to get married, it is possible that that custom has made its way across centuries and oceans.
