Every year, two things happen: Pantone selects its color of the year (and we’re big fans of this year’s pick) and International Women’s Day happens. On this day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women, we join over 100 countries in a global effort to acknowledge the most influential women in our lives—our mentors, teachers, guides, mothers, sisters and heroes. We honor the work that continues to be done on behalf of women everywhere, by women everywhere. This March 8, Pantone’s vivid Ultra Violet and IWD join forces, and we at Robertson’s Flowers couldn’t be happier about it.
IWD’s theme this year is #PressForProgress, a focus that emphasizes women’s fight for parity across the world. Pantone’s Color of the Year, Ultra Violet, would seem the perfect expression of the campaign’s goals, with its dignified, majestic air and progressive attitude. After all, purple was the color of the suffragettes, and it has long been associated with loyalty. A more powerful duo we can’t really imagine. Our design Devotion is perfectly suited to reflect both the power of IWD and the power of purple.
The richly diverse collection of flowers in this design pack a lot of purple into one vase, but the result is stunning. Tulips, hyacinth, and ranunculus form a very spring-forward arrangement, the perfect gift to give the most influential woman in your life. We don’t necessarily have a floral exchange tradition for IWD, but we think it’s about time we did. In our vision, the palette would take its cue from IWD each year, just another way to pay homage to powerful, progressive women.
